Summary of Sermon preached on Sunday, April 4, 2021

Introduction:  Summary of Sermon preached on Sunday, April 4, 2021

As a result of the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus, we can talk of two eternal benefits that we have received from Him.

One eternal benefit that we have received is that while we are on this earth, we can go about with our lives knowing that the Lord has conquered physical death for us which we will see take place at the time of translation.  We will be able to say:  “O death, where is thy sting?  O grave, where is thy victory?”  (1 Corinthians 15: 55 – 57).

The Angels in heaven did not sin and the Lord did not have to give His life for them.  The eternal God took on flesh and blood, became lower than the Angels, and gave His life for us.  In Hebrews 2: 9 – 17, the Lord calls us “his brethren”.  The fact that the Almighty God calls us His brethren explains the second eternal benefit which we will receive when we get to heaven.  It is a privilege not given to Angels.  The Lord will make us the highest group in heaven.

Summary of Sermon preached on Sunday, April 4, 2021

We listened to a sermon titled “Freedom”, CD # 1203, preached by Brother Neal Frisby on 4/3/88 (AM).

In the sermon, Brother Frisby said:

At the cross, the Lord Jesus was thinking of the past, present and future.

Our healing was done on the cross.

Freedom came to the world at the cross from all diseases and for our salvation.  The Lord Jesus set us all free.

This is the real gospel.

Two things were revealed at the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus:  we heard the biggest lie from Satan and we heard the greatest truth about eternal life.

We received healing and forgiveness of our sins.

Don’t hide any sin before the Lord, otherwise, you have unbelief.

The gospel is based on forgiveness.

Psalm 32: 5:  “I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid.  I said, I will confess my  transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin.”  Before King David finished writing this Psalm, he knew he was forgiven.

1 John 1: 9: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all  unrighteousness.”

Confess to the Lord and He will forgive.

Acts 3: 19:  “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord”.

You were forgiven and healed already at the cross; there is nothing more valuable that you can search for on this earth.

There is no where else that you are going to get eternal life.

You are not perfect, even though you are not backslidden.  Maybe you need to spend more time praying or witnessing.

You want to be faithful in every good work; you want to be strengthened with all might.

Jesus is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature; for by Him were all things created, whether they be angels, demons or thrones; everything was created by Him and for Him (Colossians 1: 15 – 18).

On the cross, we were with Him in spirit; He remembered every one of us.

Jesus is before all things and by Him all things consist.

If you have true salvation, He is going to hold you until He translates you.

Open your heart to the Lord and He will talk to you and heal you.

Nobody will ever love you or have mercy on you like the Lord Jesus.

I started the sermon:

We read about the death of the Lord Jesus in John 19: 28 – 30:  “After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.  Now there was a set a vessel full of vinegar:  and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth.  When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished:  and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.”

The Lord God, in human form as the Lord Jesus, “gave up the ghost”.  He died for you and for me and paid the price for our sins on the cross so that we can have eternal life.

Romans 6: 23: “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”  This is the gift we have from God – eternal life.

We read about the Lord’s resurrection in Matthew 28: 1 – 7:  “In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.  And, behold, there was a great earthquake:  for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.  His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:  And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.  And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye:  for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.  He is not here:  for he is risen, as he said.  Come, see the place where the Lord lay.  And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him:  lo, I have told you.”

The earthquake took place because the Angel of the Lord descended from heaven.  This was God Himself in the form of the Angel of the Lord, and yet, He was the same person that had died and rose from the dead.  He rolled back the stone and sat on it.

This Angel of the Lord had a countenance that “was like the lightning, and his raiment white as snow.”  This description reminds us of the transfiguration in Mark 9: 2 – 3:  “And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves:  and he was transfigured  before them.  And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them.”  It was the same Lord Jesus appearing as the Angel of the Lord.

As a result of the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus, we can talk of two eternal benefits that we have received from the Lord.

One eternal benefit that we have received is that while we are on this earth, we can go about with our lives knowing that the Lord has conquered physical death for us.  We will be able to say:  “O death, where is thy sting?  O grave, where is thy victory?”  1 Corinthians 15: 55 – 57:  “O death, where is thy sting?  O grave, where is thy victory?  The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.  But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

We have conquered death because we will receive an eternal body, that cannot die, at the time of translation.  2 Corinthians 5: 1 – 2:  “For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.  For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven”.

How will our bodies be changed?  Romans 8: 11:  “But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.”

If the Spirit of the Lord dwells in you, you have the guarantee that you will be changed on the day of translation.  It states the Lord “shall” change our bodies by His Spirit that now dwells in us.  This certainty reminds us of 1 Corinthians 15: 53 where it states this corruptible “must” put on incorruption and this mortal “must” put on immortality.”

1 Corinthians 15: 51 -57:  “Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump:  for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.  For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.  So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.  O death, where is thy sting?  O grave, where is thy victory?  The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.  But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

The Lord gave Himself a name that is tied to salvation; a name that is tied to Him giving up His life to save us.

Matthew 1: 21:  “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS:  for he shall save his people from their sins.”  And who is this son?  “The mighty God”; “The everlasting Father”.  Isaiah 9: 6:  “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given:  and the government shall be upon his shoulder:  and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”

It means that the Lord God cannot have any other name, other than the name “Jesus”.  He knew ahead of time that man would sin; He gave Himself the name “Jesus” because He is our Saviour.

Isaiah 43: 10-11:  “Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen:  that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he:  before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.  I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour.”

There was no God formed before the Lord Jesus and there shall be no God formed after Him.  Besides Him, “there is no Saviour.”

The Bible brings out the fact that he was slain for us before the foundation of the world.  Revelation 13: 8:  “And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.”

He chose us to be saved before the foundation of the world.  Ephesians 1: 4:  “According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love”.

He also put our names in the book of life from the foundation of the world.  Revelation 17: 8:  “The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition:  and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.”

I read from Scroll # 232:

FOREKNOWLEDGE – Way back in the eons of time we don’t have words to describe how long ago in eternity it was!  But the Lord of Hosts always foreknew us.  And at the proper moment.  Like a great cocoon spawning out of God’s mind and in the mist of His presence all of us were foreknown and came at His appointed time since Adam.  Many Scriptures reveal this.  One of them is Eph. chap. 1 – And here is another one Job 38: 6-7, His chosen was with Him when He laid the foundations of earth’s corner stone.  When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

I continued with the sermon:

The Lord has reconciled the world unto Himself, not imputing our sins to us because He has already paid the price for taken them upon Himself.

The Lord Jesus died for each human being.

Hebrews 2: 9 – 17:  “But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.  For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.  For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one:  for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren.  Saying, I WILL DECLARE THY NAME UNTO MY BRETHREN, IN THE MIDST OF THE CHURCH WILL I SING PRAISE UNTO THEE.  And again, I WILL PUT MY TRUST IN HIM.  And again, BEHOLD I AND THE CHILDREN WHICH GOD HATH GIVEN ME.  Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.  For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.  Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.”

In this Scripture, the Almighty God calls us “his brethren”.  He became lower than the Angels for the sole purpose that He might taste death for every one of us.  This goes with His name being called Jesus, for He is our Saviour, to save us from our sins.

This is the person:  “for whom are all things, and by whom are all things”, that is, He is the Creator of all things, the eternal God, and yet, He is “not ashamed to call” us “his brethren”.

It states:  “I WILL DECLARE THY NAME UNTO MY BRETHREN, IN THE MIDST OF THE CHURCH WILL I SING PRAISE UNTO THEE.”  The Lord God declared His name to us – His brethren, when He came; “and thou shalt call his name JESUS”.

It states:  “Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.”  The eternal God became flesh and blood so that through His death, “he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil”.  For every child of God, the devil no longer has the power of death over him or her.  That is why our bodies will be glorified at the time of translation – we will indeed be able to say:  “O death, where is thy sting?  O grave, where is thy victory?”  We shall receive a body similar to the resurrected body of the Lord Jesus, a glorified body, an eternal body; we shall be like Him.

It further states:  “Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren”.  The Lord again refers to us as “his brethren”.

The fact that we are the brethren of the Almighty God explains the second eternal benefit that we have received.  We will receive this benefit when we get to heaven.  It is a privilege not given to Angels.

I read from Scroll # 154:

ANGELS AND THE ELECT – “Men have often wondered when their bodies are glorified and changed how will they rank with the angels?  – In the world to come, the righteous are equal to angels! (Luke 20: 36) – In some respects and ways the redeemed will excel angels; for the overcomers will be the ‘very bride’ of Christ! – A privilege which is not given to angels!  There is no higher position for created beings than those in the Bride of Christ!” (Rev. 19: 7-9)

I continued with the sermon:

The Angels in heaven did not sin and the Lord did not have to give His life for them.  The eternal God took on flesh and blood, became lower than the Angels, and gave His life for us.  There is no greater love than this.

Colossians 1: 16:  “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers:  all things were created by him, and for him”.

The Lord Jesus has created everything; “all things were created by him, and for him”, yet He calls us “his brethren”.  This is a privilege not given to Angels.  This privilege lasts for eternity.

In heaven, we will be the highest group of all that the Lord has created or will create.  It does not make any difference “whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers”; it does not matter where the Lord may send us in His eternal universe or the trillions of creations we will see, no one will be higher than us who the Lord calls “his brethren” throughout eternity.

The Lord will always think about you because you have His very life, His eternal life.

You can say to yourself what we read in Psalm 34: 1:  “I will bless the LORD at all times:  his praise shall continually be in my mouth.”
